Description
General Description
Acrylate-PEG-Maleimide (Acryl-PEG-Mal) is a versatile heterobifunctional polyethylene glycol derivative designed for biomaterials engineering and bioconjugation. The terminal acrylate group readily participates in free-radical polymerization, photopolymerization, and Michael addition reactions, enabling incorporation into polymer matrices, hydrogels, and crosslinked networks.
The terminal maleimide group selectively reacts with thiol-containing peptides, proteins, antibodies, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules under mild conditions to form stable thioether linkages. The PEG spacer improves water solubility, flexibility, and biocompatibility while reducing steric hindrance. Acrylate-PEG-Maleimide is frequently used for hydrogel functionalization, injectable biomaterials, drug delivery systems, and tissue engineering scaffolds.
