General Description

Pentacosadiynoic Acid-mPEG (PCDA-mPEG) is a non-functionalized lipid-PEG conjugate consisting of 10,12-pentacosadiynoic acid (PCDA) covalently linked to monomethoxy polyethylene glycol (mPEG). The hydrophobic PCDA segment readily self-assembles into vesicles, micelles, and nanoparticles. Upon UV irradiation (typically 254 nm), neighboring diacetylene groups polymerize through topochemical polymerization to generate highly conjugated polydiacetylene (PDA) structures with characteristic blue-to-red chromatic and fluorescent transitions.

The hydrophilic mPEG chain provides steric stabilization, improves water dispersibility, minimizes nonspecific adsorption, and enhances biocompatibility without introducing additional reactive functional groups. These properties make PCDA-mPEG particularly useful for fabricating stable PDA nanomaterials with excellent optical and sensing performance.
