Description
General Description
mPEG-Tosylate is a highly versatile monofunctional PEG intermediate designed for the preparation of a broad range of functional PEG reagents. The terminal methoxy group is chemically inert, preventing polymer crosslinking, while the tosylate group serves as an excellent leaving group for nucleophilic substitution (SN2) reactions.
The tosylate functionality readily reacts with primary and secondary amines, thiols, alkoxides, azide ions, cyanide, and numerous other nucleophiles, enabling efficient synthesis of amino-, thiol-, azide-, alkyne-, and other functional PEG derivatives. Due to its excellent stability during storage and high synthetic versatility, mPEG-Tosylate is one of the most commonly used PEG intermediates in organic synthesis.
The PEG spacer improves aqueous solubility, enhances biocompatibility, and provides flexibility between the polymer backbone and newly introduced functional groups. mPEG-Tosylate is extensively employed in polymer synthesis, drug delivery, nanoparticle engineering, surface modification, and biomaterials research.
