Description
General Description
mPEG-Mesylate is a highly reactive monofunctional PEG intermediate designed for the preparation of a wide variety of functional PEG reagents. The terminal methoxy group is chemically inert, preventing polymer crosslinking, while the mesylate group serves as an excellent leaving group for nucleophilic substitution (SN2) reactions.
The mesylate functionality readily reacts with primary and secondary amines, thiols, alkoxides, azide, cyanide, and other nucleophiles, enabling straightforward synthesis of amino-, thiol-, azide-, alkyne-, and other functional PEG derivatives. Because of its high reactivity and excellent leaving-group ability, mPEG-Mesylate is widely used as a key intermediate in PEG chemistry.
The PEG spacer enhances aqueous solubility and biocompatibility while providing flexibility between the polymer and newly introduced functional groups. mPEG-Mesylate is extensively employed in polymer synthesis, drug delivery, nanoparticle engineering, and biomaterials research.
