Description
General Description
Lipoic acid-PEG-hydroxyl (LA-PEG-OH) is a versatile heterobifunctional PEG linker designed for nanoparticle surface engineering and polymer functionalization. The terminal lipoic acid contains a cyclic disulfide that strongly binds to gold nanoparticles, gold electrodes, and other noble metal surfaces through sulfur-metal interactions, providing superior stability compared with many monothiol-based surface ligands.
The terminal hydroxyl group serves as a convenient synthetic handle and can be readily converted into a variety of functional groups, including carboxyl, amine, NHS ester, maleimide, azide, alkyne, aldehyde, acrylate, methacrylate, epoxide, and thiol. This makes Lipoic Acid-PEG-OH an excellent intermediate for the preparation of customized PEG derivatives and multifunctional surface coatings.
The hydrophilic PEG spacer enhances water solubility, molecular flexibility, and biocompatibility while reducing steric hindrance and minimizing nonspecific protein adsorption. Lipoic Acid-PEG-OH is widely employed in biosensor fabrication, gold nanoparticle functionalization, surface PEGylation, molecular imaging, targeted drug delivery, and advanced biomaterials development.
