Description
General Description
Maleimide-PEG-COOH is a versatile heterobifunctional PEG linker designed for orthogonal bioconjugation. The terminal maleimide group selectively reacts with sulfhydryl (thiol) groups on cysteine-containing peptides, proteins, antibodies, enzymes, and other biomolecules under mild physiological conditions to form stable thioether linkages.
The terminal carboxylic acid group can be readily activated using carbodiimide chemistry (EDC/NHS) or other peptide coupling reagents to react with primary amines, enabling efficient conjugation to proteins, peptides, polymers, nanoparticles, and biomaterial surfaces.
The hydrophilic PEG spacer improves water solubility, molecular flexibility, and biocompatibility while reducing steric hindrance and minimizing nonspecific protein adsorption. Maleimide-PEG-COOH is extensively used in antibody conjugation, protein modification, hydrogel fabrication, nanoparticle engineering, biosensor development, targeted drug delivery, and advanced biomaterials.
