Nδ-Carbobenzyloxy-L-Ornithine N-Carboxyanhydride (Z-Orn-NCA)

Price range: $160.00 through $900.00

Nδ-Carbobenzyloxy-L-Ornithine N-Carboxyanhydride (Z-Orn-NCA) is a protected amino acid N-carboxyanhydride (NCA) monomer widely used for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of poly(L-ornithine). The carbobenzyloxy (Cbz, Z) protecting group preserves the side-chain amino functionality during polymerization and can be removed after polymerization to afford poly(L-ornithine). Z-Orn-NCA is an essential monomer for the synthesis of biodegradable cationic polypeptides for gene delivery, drug delivery, and biomaterials research.

Description

General Description

Nδ-Carbobenzyloxy-L-Ornithine N-Carboxyanhydride (Z-Orn-NCA) is a high-purity amino acid NCA monomer designed for controlled ring-opening polymerization to produce well-defined poly(Nδ-carbobenzyloxy-L-ornithine). The N-carboxyanhydride ring polymerizes efficiently in the presence of primary amine initiators, allowing excellent control over molecular weight and polymer architecture.

The δ-amino side chain is protected with a carbobenzyloxy (Cbz or Z) group during polymerization to prevent undesired side reactions. Following polymerization, the protecting groups can be removed by catalytic hydrogenation to produce poly(L-ornithine), a biodegradable cationic polypeptide containing primary amine side chains.

Poly(L-ornithine) exhibits excellent biocompatibility and strong electrostatic interactions with nucleic acids, making it an attractive material for gene delivery, mRNA and siRNA delivery, nanoparticle preparation, tissue engineering, and surface modification.
