General Description
Sarcosine N-Carboxyanhydride (Sar-NCA) is a highly reactive cyclic amino acid derivative designed for the controlled synthesis of polysarcosine through ring-opening polymerization (ROP). The NCA monomer polymerizes efficiently in the presence of primary amine initiators, allowing the preparation of well-defined polymers with controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions.
Polysarcosine possesses excellent water solubility, outstanding biocompatibility, low immunogenicity, and strong resistance to nonspecific protein adsorption. These properties have made polysarcosine an attractive stealth polymer and a potential replacement for PEG in nanomedicine and therapeutic applications. In addition, polysarcosine exhibits excellent hydrolytic stability and can be incorporated into block copolymers, nanoparticles, micelles, and protein conjugates.
