mPEG-Thiol (mPEG-SH)

Price range: $260.00 through $800.00

mPEG-Thiol (mPEG-SH) is a linear monofunctional polyethylene glycol (PEG) derivative containing a methoxy (mPEG) group at one terminus and a thiol (SH) group at the other. The thiol functionality readily reacts with maleimides, vinyl sulfones, activated disulfides, haloacetyl groups, and gold surfaces, making mPEG-SH an excellent reagent for PEGylation, bioconjugation, drug delivery, nanoparticle functionalization, and biomaterials research.

Description

General Description

mPEG-Thiol (mPEG-SH) is a highly versatile monofunctional PEG reagent designed for selective thiol conjugation and PEGylation applications. The terminal methoxy group is chemically inert, preventing polymer crosslinking, while the terminal thiol group provides a highly reactive sulfhydryl functionality for a broad range of bioconjugation reactions.

The thiol group reacts rapidly with maleimides to form stable thioether bonds and also participates in thiol-disulfide exchange, thiol-ene click reactions, Michael addition, and conjugation with haloacetyl-functionalized molecules. Additionally, the thiol group exhibits strong affinity toward gold surfaces, enabling the preparation of self-assembled monolayers and functionalized gold nanoparticles.

The PEG spacer enhances aqueous solubility, improves biocompatibility, reduces nonspecific protein adsorption, and prolongs circulation time in vivo. mPEG-SH is widely used for protein PEGylation, nanoparticle engineering, hydrogel synthesis, biosensor fabrication, targeted drug delivery, and advanced biomedical research.
