General Description

mPEG-Vinyl Sulfone (mPEG-VS) is a highly reactive linear monofunctional PEG reagent designed for selective bioconjugation and PEGylation. The terminal methoxy group is chemically inert, preventing polymer crosslinking, while the vinyl sulfone group serves as a Michael acceptor that reacts efficiently with nucleophiles.

Under physiological conditions, the vinyl sulfone group reacts rapidly and selectively with thiol (sulfhydryl) groups on cysteine-containing proteins, peptides, antibodies, enzymes, and thiolated polymers via Michael addition to form highly stable thioether bonds. At higher pH values, vinyl sulfone can also react with primary amines, providing additional versatility for biomolecule conjugation.
