General Description
Stearic Acid-PEG-Amine (SA-PEG-NH₂) is a heterobifunctional lipid-PEG derivative composed of stearic acid (C18:0), a polyethylene glycol (PEG) spacer, and a terminal primary amine group. The hydrophobic stearic acid moiety readily incorporates into lipid bilayers, liposomes, micelles, and lipid nanoparticles, while the PEG chain enhances aqueous solubility, steric stabilization, prolonged circulation, and biocompatibility.
The terminal amino group serves as a versatile reactive functionality for coupling with activated carboxylic acids (via EDC/NHS chemistry), NHS esters, isocyanates, aldehydes (through reductive amination), activated carbonates, epoxides, and numerous other electrophilic reagents. This enables efficient conjugation of peptides, proteins, antibodies, fluorophores, nucleic acids, targeting ligands, and other biomolecules.
