General Description
Stearic Acid-PEG-NHS is a heterobifunctional lipid-PEG derivative composed of a hydrophobic stearic acid (C18) lipid, a hydrophilic polyethylene glycol (PEG) spacer, and a terminal N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) ester. The stearic acid moiety readily incorporates into lipid bilayers, liposomes, micelles, and other lipid-based nanocarriers, while the PEG chain enhances aqueous solubility, steric stabilization, and biocompatibility.
The terminal NHS ester reacts efficiently with primary amines under mild aqueous conditions (typically pH 7.2–8.5), allowing covalent attachment of peptides, proteins, antibodies, enzymes, aptamers, and other amine-containing ligands through stable amide bonds.
Stearic Acid-PEG-NHS is extensively used for preparing functional liposomes, lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), targeted drug delivery systems, diagnostic probes, biosensors, and other advanced nanomedicine platforms.
