General Description
8-arm PEG-SCM is a branched PEG macromolecule functionalized with succinimidyl carboxymethyl (SCM) groups at the terminus of each PEG arm. The activated NHS ester groups readily react with primary amines under mild aqueous conditions (typically pH 7.2–8.5), forming stable amide linkages while maintaining the biological activity of proteins and other sensitive biomolecules.
The eight-arm architecture provides a high density of reactive sites, enabling efficient multivalent conjugation and the fabrication of highly crosslinked PEG hydrogel networks. Compared with linear PEG derivatives, 8-arm PEG-SCM offers improved crosslinking efficiency, enhanced hydrogel mechanical properties, and greater flexibility for biomaterial design.
8-arm PEG-SCM is widely used for protein PEGylation, antibody conjugation, enzyme immobilization, hydrogel fabrication, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, cell encapsulation, surface modification, and controlled drug delivery.
