Description
DSPE-Thiol is a thiol-functionalized phospholipid designed for the preparation of reactive lipid-based delivery systems. The DSPE moiety contains two saturated stearoyl (C18:0) hydrocarbon chains that readily insert into lipid bilayers, liposomes, and lipid nanoparticles, providing excellent membrane stability.
The terminal thiol group enables highly selective conjugation with maleimide-containing molecules through stable thioether bond formation. It also participates in thiol-disulfide exchange, thiol-ene click reactions, Michael addition, and direct immobilization onto gold surfaces. These versatile reactions allow efficient attachment of peptides, proteins, antibodies, polymers, fluorescent probes, and targeting ligands.
DSPE-Thiol is widely employed for liposome surface modification, targeted lipid nanoparticle preparation, biosensor fabrication, molecular imaging, self-assembled monolayers, and advanced nanomedicine applications.
